The Bad Dog Agility Approach to SUCCESS at Your Next Trial

Join the 2018 Invitational Prep Course

Every year, more and more competitors are taking our prep courses, getting personalized feedback on their practices, and making their way into the Finals of national level events like the American Kennel Club (AKC) Agility Invitational.

In this prep course, we share with you our exact approach to trial preparation in an easy-to-understand way that won't leave you feeling overwhelmed or confused.

Keep in mind that not everyone who takes this course actually attends the AKC Invitational. For those handlers, past National events are the source of the sequences they run in training, and everything they learn helps them run better at their weekend trials.

it gives me a simple road map for my preparation . . .

I LOVE the prep course. It takes specific elements from previous Invitationals and creates exercises to work on. Because the exercises are spaced out in the weeks before the Invitational, it gives me a simple road map for my preparation. When I arrive at the event, I am confident that I have done a good job preparing and all that is left is execution. Thanks!!

the short sequence approach was highly beneficial . . .

I thought the short sequence approach was highly beneficial in making rapid progress with my pre novice (13 mo) dog by focusing on just a very few critical points. It enabled both us to stay connected and keep the flow. Penny made awesome handling progress in just a few short sessions over a 4 week period.

Meet the Team

Co-creator of Bad Dog Agility, Sarah Fernandezlopez has earned the AKC's Master Agility Championship with 4 different breeds over almost 20 years in the sport. A competitor, seminar presenter, and teacher of agility, Sarah will demonstrate various exercises with her border collie and explain key execution points with the Coach's Eye.

Co-creator of Bad Dog Agility, Esteban Fernandezlopez has competed in the AKC Invitational multiple times with his Rottweiler Sammie, finishing 3rd in the 2008 24" Finals on Animal Planet, just a few tenths behind the winner. He has also appeared in 3 straight AKC National Agility Championship finals with Golden Retriever Gitchi. Esteban and Gitchi also appeared in the Finals at the 2016 Masters Agility Championship at Westminster, and reached the podium at the AKC/FCI World Team Tryouts in 2018. Esteban is the only handler to have run three different large dog breeds at FCI team tryouts, and has also run three different breeds at three different heights in either the Challenger round or Finals at the AKC National Agility Championship. In this course, Esteban will demonstrate exercises with his border collie and provide course map analysis for every round from last year's championship event.

Jennifer Crank has reached the Finals of the AKC National Agility Championship twenty times over the last 12 years. Over the past two years, Jennifer has also finished 2nd in the Finals of the Masters Agility Championship at Westminster, 3rd in the Finals of the AKC National Agility Championship, 2nd in the Finals of the USDAA Cynosport Grand Prix Championship, 1st place in the USDAA Cynosport Steeplechase Championship, and competed at both the FCI Agility World Championship and the European Open. In this course, Jennifer will demonstrate exercises with her dogs and explain key execution points with the Coach's Eye.

Course Format

This course will help you and your dog excel in Orlando by breaking down the actual courses from last year’s Invitational and creating practice exercises based on challenging sequences from those courses. Every week, beginning September 11th, we will release a round from the event.

  • Round 2: Standard
  • Round 3: Hybrid
  • Round 4: Jumpers With Weaves
  • Round 5: Finals

Course Map Analysis

Esteban will walk you through the course maps in the Coach’s Eye for all 5 rounds from last year’s event. Understanding how judges design courses will help you quickly identify traps so that nothing will surprise you.

Small Space Exercises

Through video demonstrations and course analyses with the Coach’s Eye, we will advise you to handle the sequence in a variety of ways so you can decide which works best for you and your dog.

Nested Challenge Sequences

Expand your skills with an 8-10 obstacle challenge sequence using the same layout. The challenge sequences have been designed to help you prepare for more difficult challenges you might see at the event.

BONUS: Mental Preparation

Your mental preparation plays as much a part in your success as your handling and execution.  Esteban will share the tips that have brought him success at the highest levels.

We exceeded those goals by miles!

I wanted to let you know that I think this course really helped me prepare and be successful at the AKC Agility Invitational. This was my first time being invited to the invitational. The exercises, videos, and course analysis really helped us practice and helped me be a lot better at analyzing courses and planning what I’d do on course. I really liked that the exercises were easy to set up.

My goals in going to the invitational were basically to have fun, keep him happy, and to do the very best that I could. We exceeded those goals by miles! Astro and I ran clean in all four rounds and made finals! Thank you so much!
