Hi Leslie, my whippet Tesla has issues with taking off late. Sarah suggested that working with you would be helpful. I watched your lecture on jumping issues and I’ve looked at your jumping modules. Below is a video of baseline grids. I experimented with different spacing and heights. Each combo is labeled. For example 7/8″ is a grid with jumps 7′ apart and 8″ high. For reference Tesla normally jumps 20″ and has a big stride for her size. Looking forward to your feedback.
https://youtu.be/gCdEL2COrss?si=IsMCW64jYTyopUga
I like the 7.5’ at 8” best. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=qobpD5aUO3xepqDYmBVa
Thanks for the feedback!! I put her advanced grid work in that section.
Awesome! On it.
Hi Leslie. Would like your feedback please on my attempt to determine baseline grid for my two dogs. First video is of my older (7yrs) medium-sized dog. First run through I thought it looked like spacing could be closer. I think 2nd run through is best with the last looking like a little too much collection? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuOeT9WpubI The second video is of my young (14 mths) BorderPap. I started out with the bar on the ground but it felt that it wasn’t giving the right indication of whether it was the right spacing for jumping, so put it up to lowest jump height. This will be 8 – 14cm lower than what she’ll eventually jump. Not sure of her jump height yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuOeT9WpubI
I’ve adjusted my wording a bit more on this grid since this was published. I want it to be a stride grid not a bounce jump grid. And that also takes away the need for a “perfect arc over each bar”. After watching hundreds of dogs do this exercise that last phrase definitely sets up unrealistic expectations. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=m0FPoPpRduwZEoD6zVCL
The video links were the same. Definitely post a link for the other one!
oops here is video link of my young dog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_k6E6ssTMGg
I like the bars on the ground and then increase space between each jump. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=4nABFyiHw9Ak5T0xX8L6
Hi Coach Leslie. I had a go at setting up the stride grid and after some tweaking I think I got it right? This is about 4.5m (approx 16.5 feet). The jump height is very low (24cm) for my dog who jumps 50cm in competition, but I think you said the height needed to be low. My dog is a terrible ‘over jumper’/takes off early which you diagnosed as most likely an arousal issue. I’m keen to work on this and understand that determining baseline grid is an important step. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AatwDorNqqI I’m also including the stride grid for my younger dog that will be jumping a much lower jump height relative to her height but still keen to set up good jumping style. Spacing was approx 4m so not that much smaller than my medium-sized dog but I think it is because her stride is long relative to her size? Anyhow appreciate any feedback please. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N59vXRY6M38
Try to think of this as a running grid. Scratch out the word jumping in the instructions and replace with running. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=KPbeA4ZkRxnLMie8Lf2m
Hi Coach Leslie. I had another go with bars on the ground for both dogs. For my older medium sized dog I tried the increase spacing you suggested (approx 4.75m) but he’s still jumping a bit. Then after I set up grid for my younger BorderPap I tried him on this and got the running stride that I think we’re after? That spacing was closer to 4m. Really keen to get this right as I really want to try and improve his jumping technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0APFcnpnPZo Also sharing grid work for my younger dog for feedback please. She is also jumping a bit so assume need to increase distance? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0qY4ZthWV0
I want you to decrease spacing more. Both dogs are still taking a stride between each ‘jump’. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=Rg67Gu8BwoMflrXBRxHD
Thanks Leslie. Can you please repost the link to the On Form video as I am getting error message when I click it.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=Rg67Gu8BwoMflrXBRxHD
On my end it looks like it might not have uploaded to the cloud. If you are still getting errors we should ge5 Sarah involved to do some tech sleuthing for us.
Hi Leslie. We have a spat of bad weather coming in so I tried quickly to do the running grid set up. I took off the wings to see whether would reduce the jumping but still got jump in first rep on last bar. I reduced spacing to approx (3m) and I think if I had set up my dog closer then would’ve been okay? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9oAqbonLgk
So close to perfect! I agree, I think the 3m is the sweet spot. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=tMRZRgv4ZVDKcrVgDYDe
Hi Coach Leslie. I set up the stride grid again but this time making sure my dog was set up in the right spot and putting the toy further enough away that I didn’t get collection until after the grid. What do you think please? Do you think I can go to the Advanced Baseline please? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75f4C7FWBSY
This is perfect! https://link.getonform.com/view?id=XbIh55Ap9VEpGQ9zREUH
Okay Coach, Here is a baseline grid for Ember from this morning. The first three reps are at 4.5 feet and the second 3 are at 5 feet.
https://youtu.be/ZvhD-uGZ1rE?si=5xUn9Lg383OyAvS7
I forgot to mention they are all on recall to a target.
Hi Marty,
It looks like the video link is the jump analysis video. You can reply to this thread with the baseline video.
No idea how that happened.
https://youtu.be/mY6dzB4mmYI?si=hFg6wNpK4zBkodtu
Nice job! I’d like to see 5.5’ before declaring the sweet spot.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=igop8u8HIrCeiaIMXrg9
This is Ember with 3 repetitions at 5.5 feet and I went on to 6 feet to see what. It looked like at that distance. She has not been measured yet, but when I put the wicket on her, she seems to be just a bit over 18 inches.
https://youtu.be/Imi7bMu5Y8c?si=CXpe_yQL5-5TopNg
I like 6 feet best. I’m glad you tried it. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=lEevvmlY4HRnIBSHAxmB
Okay. This is the first advanced baseline. I went out to 18 feet with a 20 inch jump. The baseline jumps are at 6 feet.
https://youtu.be/BMTwLH7glng?feature=shared
When you get a chance… Have a look at the advanced baseline. In this thread.
Hello!
I decided to go back to Baseline grid from the Advanced one just to figure out some better spacing since he would just soar over two jumps while doing that one!
I forgot to submit this when I did it (7/4, so the booming in the background is fireworks), but I believe I had to extend them out to 5.5ft despite his size. I had to extend the last one a little more than the others. Not sure if it all looks good, though, so I can try it again if needed!

Hello!
Was wanting to follow up to get some feedback if possible. 🙂
https://youtu.be/boebzbHifwI?si=wT6rjOLGZ_0sTdZx
Kobe’s first attempt. Rails on the ground 3 feet apart. Please let us know what you think and what’s next. Thank you
I think you should try 3.5 feet.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=VYStWNuFHrt2GyGLgmak
I started with a fairly large 6.5 ft grid. It does not look to me like Bolo understands the first grid and only bounces the last 3 jumps.
https://youtu.be/yl8GLZFK9uY
Nice job! I like the forward focus. Decrease the spacing to 6 feet between the ‘jumps’. Start him the same distance away as in this video. Then also try with him starting about 6 feet away from the first jump.
Okay. Here we are. Six feet spacing and two start points.
https://youtu.be/7yeKt7HV0DU?si=3FvPfHnTr-MSCHik
Much better! Use 6 feet as your sweet spot. You can do the baseline grid as a warm up or plyometric fitness exercise on its own. You can also progress to Advanced Baseline as the next grid.
This is my girl Reba. She’s 15 months and now that she’s understanding the game her arousal and speed is causing her to not know when to take off for a jump. She’s also not using much of her rear end to power her jumps so we have started some rear end awareness exercises and it does seem to be helping. Her first measurement last weekend in UKI was 18.5” so her regular height would be 20” for competition however I am considering running her lower as we work this out
https://youtu.be/NMwP73sZWl0
Let’s try decreasing the height to 4” and keep spacing at 4.5 feet.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=fDee6yKzKsFlL98PVcEw
We set this up today – first time using camera controlled with app on my phone and some of the videos cut a little short. 2 reps for each dog. Thanks!
https://youtu.be/_o2_Ff6vYZs
Good start! No changes to Blaze, but the other two I want to try some changes. https://link.getonform.com/view?id=PBCRcgb9aFOEhcuCgH2C
Lyric’s Baseline grid (4′): https://youtu.be/RCOvlylcumU
PadFoot’s baseline grid(3′ with rail on ground then 4′): https://youtu.be/M8bhKbVDkOY
Flint’s baseline grid (4′): https://youtu.be/XmtV9p3exTc
They’re all looking good. Lyric – increase spacing by 6”; Padfoot – cross the jump bar so you get a slightly lower height and increase spacing to 3’3”;
Flint – lower the jump height but keep the spacing the same.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=06Brer7xNhCBhiJtHZmQ
Super suggestions, I see what you are pointing out. Nice to be able to see that. I’ll make those adjustments and give it another shot. Rails were all set to half the dogs jump height. Unfortunately Paddy and Flint just scrape into the higher jump heights. Will keep them low for this exercise anyway.
Glad it makes sense. Can’t wait to see your progress.
Flint-lower height, same distance: https://youtu.be/AvtOVEKUj6w
Increase spacing by 6 inches between all the jumps.
Lyric- more distance, same height: https://youtu.be/jBlNYvM8pXw
This is the sweet spot spacing. Use this spacing for advanced baseline grid.
PadFoot-lower height, more distance: https://youtu.be/Ew6PlGkBK_U
I think he’s a little unsure of the crossed bars. Stick with this setup for the next week to build confidence in it.
Eevee’s baseline grid. The first pass is around 5 1/2 feet between jumps and the remaining passes are at 5 feet. Thank you!
https://youtu.be/NWAAFy9_T7U
Good to see you again!
I like the 5 feet but it may go up to 5.5 if she gets bit more drivey when she sees the full height jump.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=y6nd7b7lsNOgNIgZpCRE
Buster’s Grid 55″ at 12″ bar. He currently jumps 16″. He measured 19″, but I jump him at 16″. Should I increase the grid?
https://youtu.be/xiiCur58Zbo
Lower height to 8” and try 5 feet between each jump.
https://link.getonform.com/view?id=a4U6tcRyB2kikx03cM8e
So, I think technical Jenna is a “small” dog (she has official measurements from 10.5-12.5″ at the whithers, and jumps 8 or 12″ depending on the venue)
And we have been trying to shrink it down for the last two weeks, from nearly 6 feet to today we got through 4′
Should we stay at 4? Shrink more?
https://youtu.be/tFOQ2-26UUA
Stay at 4 feet. I think it’s looking really good!
