Hi Leslie – here are Matrix and Yowza doing the front feet pivots

Here’s Jake’s attempt. He struggled keeping his back feet on the disk. https://youtu.be/UMCcyAIuiyE

Hello. Here is our work on Hands & Feet and front and rear pivots on the Fitbone. I noticed Tag had a tendency to tuck her rear legs under her body some on the rear pivots. Should I try a disk for her instead? https://youtu.be/pIWccOMprqE

Here is our first attempt at fitbone pivots. It was a hot day so the fitbones were pretty overinflated and Jamie was getting tired. (I need to set a timer for all these exercises that have reps rather than time and just stop after a set time – I tend to keep pushing!). He is great at pivoting on a small platform (though I haven’t done much of this since his operation) but has always been more enthusiastic about pivoting anticlockwise than clockwise. On the fitbone he was very reluctant to go clockwise. I think now his leg is stronger I’ll start doing pivots on his small platform before trying these again. https://youtu.be/ns7z-oIYr3U

So I have 3 links here, the first one is the rear pivots using a fitbone: https://youtu.be/o5S62vSmJOY

Second we have the rear pivots using a large disc:

The 3rd is the front pivots using a fit bone:

I think the fitbone was the best choice for the front pivots, and using a chair was helpful for good positioning and a flat spine.

Using the fit bone I think was also the best choice for the rear pivot work. Although I like the disc, it is too large for this particular exercise since Karma thinks she might need to sit on it instead of using it only as a front paw target! I think if I had a small disc that would have worked the best! Let us know what you think!

Bounce and Strut’s homework. Boy, watching the playback, I already see MANY areas we need to improve. Slowing the boys down is a biggie. The boys have been taught this exercise by doing complete circles and ending up in heel position so getting them stopping in front of me was a challenge.

  • Carol R says:

Coach Leslie, where would I find the paw disc? I have searched online and can not find one. Thanks

  • Sandy & Karma says:

So the rear pivots, how is this different than the rear pivoting we have always done with front paws on (usually) a round platform where the movement completes full rotations in each direction? What is the reason for only doing a few steps in each direction? I guess the same question for the front pivots?
