My puppy is a10 week old JRT and a good tugger. When I pick him up he holds the toy in his mouth. I have been waiting, sometimes it seems like a long time, for him to drop it. Then I put him back on the ground, hold him in place, and wag the toy around and say “get it”. Is waiting him out the right thing to do? I have been reluctant to “trade” the toy for food because I have one dog who will refuse to let go of anything unless I have food to “buy it”. I was hoping that this dog could be rewarded by tug so I don’t always need food around.
