For a one-year-old dog, would you recommend training this skill with the table at competition height (16″) or start off at a low height? Also, in terms of prerequisite skills, is the use of a cot a good tool to use because a dog’s inclination is to get into a down position on such a soft surface?

    • Sarah Baker says:

The cot is just what I had inside to work with. Now that there is no table position we can be more lax about what they do on the table. The cot is actually not the best because it is a little slick. I usually start with a low table but see no reason a sound adult dog cannot start with a 16” table.

Are you using a verbal cue for the table in this video?
