Interesting information. After watching both this and the other recommended routines, I’m wondering what you would do in the following situation: The dog is motivated and focused on you outside the ring for the simple tasks, but has difficulty performing those same behaviors in the ring (hand touch, getting into position, etc).
If you have an option like FEO – I would use that to practice these same routines over and over inside the ring.
You also need to practice the reengagement in practice, like in a class setting. Treat their gate like the trial gate.
I also like the idea of priming. Do lots of behaviors outside the gate, then walk through and immediately ask for the same behavior. The hope is it’s almost a reflex to respond by that point.
