I’m looking for help with my 4 year old cocker who frequently runs around weaves at trials. My friend (and judge at the trial this weekend) thinks he is running past weaves due to stress. How should I work through the distraction exercises?
Stress at weaves is very common and often presents as running by them or entering REALLY late (like pole 6) rather than simply missing the entry.
This presentation discusses my thoughts on how proofing at home can help counter stress at a trial.

I would start with the third proofing link. The weave challenges. They are kind of systematic getting gradually harder. The other two links have additional explanations and ideas, so you can look at those as well, but for starting out this one is best:

Thank you so much!! We’ll work on these and let you know how we progress.
Hi, Sarah!
I’m happy to report that Kennedy aced all of his weave poles at the trial this weekend – even Q’ing & 1st place in Steeplechase with 2 weaves! No stress running past weaves! We worked through a few of the challenges you recommended 2 evenings this weekend prior to the trial. We’re going to keep practicing the distraction work so we’ll be better prepared for Cynosport in October.
Thanks again!
Erin & Kennedy
That is AWESOME!!! Great work!
The 2nd link does not seem to contain any drills.
The second link is more of a webinar/lecture format that talks about our weave proofing strategy and shows some of the weave proofing that we do.
