Just curious…if you can no longer upload from YouTube to CE, how is it that you were able to give me feedback with CE using my YouTube link? TIA!

  • joanmskinner@gmail.com says:

Question – I renamed a couple videos but am not seeing where that name appears. My videos are all batched by date but names don’t show up?

  • Denielle S says:

Sarah, I don’t have the YouTube option come up. I can only import video on my device or my One Drive or iCloud.

    • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

Yes – YouTube shut down this option and then Coach’s Eye subsequently removed it. I’ll add a note above the video and then retape when I get a chance.

      • Denielle S says:

Thank you for following up. I can always download the edited video onto my phone and then import it, but it definitely adds a step.

Sarah — I have a question on the YouTube videos. Is there a duration length limit for the video to be imported in? I noticed that I could not import videos that are longer than 3 minutes. Nothing happens. I tried importing over a WI-FI network thinking that it might be a slow connection issue, nothing gets imported in.

Unfortunately, this feature of the Coach’s Eye has become almost unusable. It used to work for all videos. Then it started silently failing for 30% of videos. Lately, it fails 90% of the time.

I logged this issue with Coach’s Eye support staff and spoke with one of the lead support people. Here was his response:

“I was able to test this link on my end, however it appears I am seeing the same issues. We’ve done some research here and we are finding that there are certain YouTube links that simply cannot be downloaded. This is related to copyright law and permissions that prevents us from doing so. Unfortunately, our integration with YouTube does not give any sort of error or message indicating that a video cannot be downloaded. You’ll basically get the behavior you have been getting, where nothing happens.”

I’m not sure I believe the copyright issue or permissions issue since I’ll have one video from a student that works and then two more in the same email that don’t. There is no background music that might trigger copyright.

I expect that YouTube is cracking down on programs that download content and whatever integration they are using is getting locked down.

I’m going to have to change my recommendation for importing video to Dropbox.

Clarification question- you indicate to record using your phone. Are you primarily working with iMovie and coaches eye in your iPad/ tablet? Thx

    • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

I usually do everything on my phone cause i don’t mind the smaller screen. Esteban tapes on his phone then airdrops to his iPad and does everything else there.

  • Jerry says:

I do not save my edited videos into Camera Roll (thanks for that info) but get them from I Movie to Coaches Eye by selecting Copy to Coach’s Eye from the share option in I Movie.

  • Mel36541 says:

I thought that somewhere you mentioned that hitting the heart icon in our camera roll would make them easier to find in to import into coaches eye…

    • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

You are correct. Hitting the heart puts it in the built in “Favorites” album, but it appears that CE doesn’t honor that special album.

So hearting it will help find it in iMovie (where you can go to your favorites), but not in CE. For CE, you can add videos to an album you create to get a similar effect.

      Thanks for pointing that out.
