I tried two different strategies for all 3 dogs. My preferred handling for everyone would probably be the opening of the second one and the closing of the first one.

Here is my nested challenge work. I have to have patience when I do the forced front because I start too soon, he goes over the front of the jump.

He doesn’t know what a reverse spin is, so I did a regular front.

Thanks Sarah! Awesome feedback! These are exactly the things I am not that sure of yet and I have never had a big fast dog before. Also, he is so in tune with every single movement I make, I stress a little that I am going to pull him off things. I know that is training and that is why I am here…to get better at my queuing so he is clear.

I will work on those pieces you spoke about and see if I can get some improvement!

That was a threadle but I see what you mean about making it more obvious.

    Hi Sarah,
Here are your great suggestions. I sent her to the back of #4 with my cue for a backside that is not a push, thought the right wing was a better choice fo us. I also kept running more after the tunnel. Not really sure what caused the oops. She still takes the jump at a slice is the reason for the wide turn on the next to the last jump. I tried a RS there and it helped some to tighten that turn. Did you mean by continuing to run after the tunnel and be deeper into that pocket that I would change the angle she takes the jump? With Spark who is a bit slower and more experienced I did two fronts to end with DOR for the WP. Still the turn was at a slice and wide. Looking forward to your comments!

Here we are attempting the nested course. Reverse spins are unreliable for me and I feel I can get going faster with a send and a verbal. She is so fast for me that I can fall behind so easily! Also, I saw Perry DeWitt have an off course at the end of a beautiful run at last year’s AKC nationals when she used a RS and she is such a good handler. Looking forward to your comments, thank you!

OK here’s the video – not sure I did this filming uploading correctly

    • Kris says:

PS I added the weave-jump-tunnel at the end b/c we’re working tunnel entrances from angles

Hi Sarah. I had a question, only because I’m novice level and trying to straighten out front crosses in my mind 🙂. When you did your front cross starting at 6, you stopped before the wing on 6, and Kris sort of kept rolling through. Which worked well too. I’m about to re-do the exercise, I am trying to work my obvious decel work in so I am going to try the decel before the wing on 6. But I get a bit messed up in my footwork as I have to almost move backwards and definitely laterally. Obviously there is a difference between each set up , as well as each dog and handler. I’m not sure I’m being clear with my conundrum…. I might try both ways on my re-do and see how it looks and what works. Thanks for any thoughts on the front cross at that spot.

        • Kris says:

Hi Nicole – Sarah is the expert – I am just learning too. At 6 I was trying to get Hart set up for the weaves I added to the sequence b/c we are working on angled entries into them and it seemed like a good place to try that.

          • Nicole May says:

Hi Kris, your run was great 🙂. You look pro level to me! I was going out to practice earlier, and I ended up trying 6-7 two ways….one with more of a decel before 6 and then one with a more moving front cross past the plane of 6. Both worked but the decel before 6 , my dog turned much tighter on. I think I just have loads more actual practicing and sequencing to do before this all clicks !

          • Nicole May says:

Also, I get what you mean about the weaves set up. That was a good idea!

          • Nicole May says:

Thanks so much. Thinking about the decel before the wing to start the front cross has really been enlightening for me. I think I always raced my dog to the landing side front cross , and he’s fast with a big stride. We’ve been intentionally working decels and it’s helping us so much! A lightbulb has gone off in my brain.🙂

Thank you! These are wonderful sequences and your video is so helpful.

Oops, here’s the redo video. Thanks!

Here’s a redo of the Nested Challenge before watching your FC Video. With Juno, I think it went better and also think my foot work looks pretty good? With Jake, my foot work is no so good but he naturally collects and wraps so well regardless! I’m thrilled this FC stuff came up because I’ve been struggling with execution for a long time.

  • Nikki says:

Here is our nested challenge. After watching the video, I realized I never went in on 6 to 7. I handled a couple of different ways. When I tried a backside blind at 2, bar 4 would come down. I have 2 cues for the backside, nana and Lala. Nana means turn tight and lala mean take the backside at a slice. It really didn’t matter what I said at 4, he was jumping long. He did get a fairly nice wrap on 7 going to 8. Work to do. 🙂 https://youtu.be/3hMxl4Tjzhk

  • jpintar says:

Here’s our Nested challenge. I already feel like I got something our of this of course! I really worked on the decel at 6 and realized that I haven’t been using enough decel before my FX’s making them wider than I would like. And though in this exercise particularly it felt uncomfortable doing so….what a difference it made in his turn….AHA!!
