I am so sorry! We are on our holiday break. I emailed all our VIP students and didn’t think about emailing the Invitational Prep students. I’ll make sure Jenn gets to it as soon as she’s back on the 7th. Or I can look at immediately if you like!

      • Liz Barlow says:

7th is fine. 🙂 About to go away to compete and judge for the weekend. Have a great break. (I actually put this as an opening sequence in one of my courses – I’ll be interested to see how people run it.) 🙂

https://youtu.be/OdZkn4OwsAE?si=QAMrZlZ7lio_LP7i this was fun. Gonna train it again on Saturday

  • Emilie says:

Hello! This week gave us a little “trouble,” so I am really look forward to your feedback. For some of the exercises, it ran better if I opted not to lead out. And for the challenge, we got a little creative. Thank you very much!

Pardon the dark. I get home from work after it’s dark and weekends have either been rain or we have been trialing

Could we get the CRCD code for this course or a map with obstacle middle feet AND inches noted? Admittedly maybe a little obsessive for just practice, but I like to be as accurate as possible in my setup at home. If not, no worries, this particular one the obstacles are pretty close to the grid marks.

    • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

Because CRCD does not work on Mac, this map was created by me based on Jenn’s video, so I would not be too concerned with it being exact within inches!

In general, I start with a map that does not have coordinates, I start with one obstacle and then measure to the next obstacle by going “down x feet” and “across y feet”. I get x and y but just estimating. It’s pretty easy to get pretty close. Halfway between the grid lines is 5 ft, then you can visualize where 1,2,3,4 feet would be within that 5 ft (for example).

So even if I do provide feet and inches, you should recognize that what you’re seeing in demo is already an approximation (though a very good one) of what you’re seeing in the diagram.

    • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

But yes – I hear you! We’ll be using MOSTLY CRCD and including the code at BDA, but occasionally, when we don’t have access to CRCD, we will use SmarterAgility.

And I just realized that I can just regenerate the Smarter Agility with coordinates, lol – so here you go!

      • Collene says:

TY for the insights and the new map!

I recognize that it is estimates, but….. it does just seem to make it faster to me to have the measurements and not have to estimate if that makes sense. 🙂

My own method for course building is slightly different from yours and might explain why the measurements are so handy:

I have two 100 foot tape measures that I lay out perpendicular to each other. (side note: they don’t always intersect in the middle of the course. if most obstacles are on one side of the course I put one tape closer to them).

Then I put labelled, colored flags down the tape measure. Blue for even (20 foot for ex), green for odd (10 foot for ex), orange (not labelled) for 5 foot increments between the other flags.

Now, if I have a map with the center measurements labelled, I can quickly place all the obstacles by referring to the two tape measures and their flags.

So I am sure that I am not close as inches to correct since I am just eyeballing the tapes from afar, but I like knowing inches so I can guesstimate from the two tape measures better.

The practice space I have is very full of diagonal and curve-y lines, so this technique sort of saves my sanity setting up courses!

The lead out push has historically been out favorite for these openings, but lately she has began breaking her stay, so I’m much less confident than I used to be. As a result, I’m not sure what I’d use in invitationals. That’s why I take several breaths at the beginning. On a lead out, I used to disconnect and walk away, but I’ve started watching her instead bc she started breaking, which makes it look different. The first couple times through my videographer cut me out of the picture, so I redid it at the end. She broke once out of 3 tries, and I put her back to the start when she did. I got a bit confused about what to do on the last 2 jumps with the rears.

  • Dennis Kirkpatrick says:

These went pretty well for us. I definitely see a few things I can do better. Looking forward to seeing what you say. We finally had time to do the challenge sequence and I’m glad because we need to work in our threadle. It took us 3 tries to get it right. Thanks!

Here’s Jakes attempt. I ran the RC a couple of times & included the one I thought was better. It still looks like I ran an L pattern rather than performing it correctly. https://youtu.be/NYLDgEcNN0k?si=YIfWUn6vkoF12Ejv

Cherry’s submissions. I think in a trial I would do the blind option preferentially. Cherry gets pretty nervous when I do a big lead out like with the first option (but it went really well at home).
