Here is our effort. I did not do the front cross.

  • Christinede1 says:

So my goal here was to put more joy back into our practice! Got that tug out and used it, a lot! I think I was asking him for too much and not rewarding enough, he is, after all, a novice dog… First time he turned the wrong way at jump #3, maybe I didn’t cue the FC and pushed on his line that’s why I rewarded him, I’m sure I made the mistake… and maybe I should’ve had the toy in my other hand, I think he was going for that on the backside but we don’t have that groovy independent backside yet… I was very happy with how this ended up and I think he looked very happy too!

  • Barb VE says:

I started with wrap left and wrap right the way you demo’d (although I did 4 to 7 differently). If I wanted to wrap the right wing, the third run is closer to how I would do it irl, using a rear-cross wrap instead of BC to wrap or pull. The fourth run was how I would do it if it were at the beginning (with a lead-out).

  • Karyn De says:

My difficulties with wraps is on full display here. I included many bloopers, hoping for some help with this issue (especially with Thumper, my 24″). I’ve been trying to ensure I am using a 5 foot bar for all wraps, as we generally train with 4 foot bars, and have some issues with back-jumping at trials with the 5 foot bar wraps. My instinct on this sequence would be to do a rear on the wrap with Thumper, and the blind to Jaako was an option I hadn’t ever considered in a situation like this, it also worked well for Thumper, not for Tigger.

  • Sandy says:

Blitzen doing the challenge exercise. She is a 4 1/2 year old Border Collie. It’s the first time we’ve tried the Jaakko turn.
    Thanks for critique!

Here is Flash Man’s challenge exercises.

  • Katy Mallory says:

Here’s our challenge. Pretty sure 1st option is faster or at least felt faster. My handling on 2nd option was not as crisp as I would have liked but we got it done

Here is Buzz’s challenge sequence. I added the rear cross to the right side wrap to see how it would go. I found the blind cross to the right side wrap a bit tricky in that I really needed to cross further to the right than I realized. The first try I was too far to the left and Buzz read it as a backside.

    Option 2
    Extra Rear Cross

Thank you Sarah, that side by side was very helpful and the take away was very informative. I have always run large dogs jumping 24″. Buzz is my first small dog and I am learning that I need to adjust my handling a bit with a smaller dog. One of the things that you pointed out and I had not thought about is that I do tend to send Buzz quite a bit because that is what I needed to do with my 24″ dogs to stay ahead. But I do wonder if getting too far ahead to the point where I slow down for him to catch up is not demotivating him so he is slowing down.

Here are the challenges for Ace. GoPro deleted the other sequences. I will redo them if possible.
