I’m really glad I signed up for this course. Bruno is on the (slightly) injured list, so I can’t train with him for a few more days. But…when I analyzed this course, I saw me doing a FC between 12 and 13.
I find it beneficial to look at the map and think about what I would do, then listen to the analysis, and THEN watch some videos of handlers running it from last year. As you’re doing, give yourself a chance to develop a plan before listening to the analysis.
Hi Jen,
This course was a huge disappointment to me. I thought I had done a reasonable analysis and walk-through but alas.
I did a RC on the flat between the teeter and #11. In my mind, it was a straight shot 11-12-13-tunnel. Enzo saw it as 11-12-tunnel. So sad!
So my question is:
What was my hint that he might grab the tunnel without
taking #13?
I had time to do a cross up there, I just didn’t see why I should until it was too late.
Any additional hints? Most of our “errors” are of this kind; the dog has the skills but I don’t read the course correctly.
Thanks so much, I really enjoy these analyses.
Barb
I’m not sure this is a mistake I would have been prepared for myself. At least not from looking at the map alone. Did you do a RC on the flat or more of a RC at jump #11? I ask as that changes the line a bit.
I had a conversation with someone this weekend who misjudged a line because they didn’t realisticly walk the dogs path; meaning, they walked what they WANTED the dog to do and not what the dog ACTUALLY would do. In this case, the wider the dog goes after 11, the better it sets them up for 13. If you did the RC on the flat and set a really straight line 11-12, getting jumps 13 is harder. Add to that pressure from the handler coming up around the weaves pressures left (towards the tunnel.)
I’m not sure I have an easy answer on this one since it seems it was a pretty unique fault. Did you see other dogs make that mistake? Could you see the error in what they did?
Well, I just reviewed the video of my NAC run from last year (https://youtu.be/OJWyTfLrmjE ) and it looks like I did the RC on the flat but not very carefully; he actually skipped both 12 and 13. I think the judge could have called his up-contact on the teeter, also.
Well, as we say about the Lions, “there’s always next year!”
Based on your line of motion, I can see why he missed 12. There was just so much pressure with no cuing of convergence. I think he was headed towards 15 initially after taking 11 and by the time he realized it wasn’t that, he couldn’t get back in to 12. This will be your year!!! 😉
I really liked hearing Jenn’s analysis of the course. I analyzed it first and then compared the two. I was pleased to see our approach for running the course being so similar.
