First off thanks for including your blind crosses that didn’t work out. That kept it in the front of my mind and we got it right off. I think they all went well. I definitely should have showed a turning cue at the second front much sooner. That was our widest turn of the 3. I’m really starting to see things while reviewing my own videos much better. I need to make sure I record all training sessions which I fail to do. I’m definitely going to record my turns at a seminar this afternoon. Thanks again for a great course!

  • Carol N Flash says:

Attached are Flash’s exercises. I found the blinds easiest for me, but not necessarily the tightest. I added a fourth option of a front with a blind. The blind just felt more natural in that short space.

Must be my age? I forgot to upload my runs. Rolex and I struggled some, but I figured it out. That made it much easier for Vibe. Thanks so much for your help. I think I have compartmentalized MY Issues and just ordered Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Thanks so much for your help and feedback.

Actually, you did post it! I’m glad you said something because when I saw your video, I thought “wait. I think I did look at this already”. I think that it was under the challenge sequence.

I also ordered the book but I haven’t read it yet. 🙂

I also set up the sequence with 6 weave poles preceding the jumps. Because of Tru’s independent weave pole performance I was able to get downstream in time to get the fronts and blinds but I found it a hard slog on my legs. I much preferred the rears and I think Tru gave me tighter, faster turns with them. No question at a trial the rears would win with me! The challenge sequence was challenging! Initially I had trouble getting Tru to ignore jump #4 and do the backside of 3 because picking him up on my left after 3 required me to get too close to Tru doing the backside. In several reps I had to calibrate how far was far enough to get the backside without the off-course and still allow the left-hand pickup. Then I found it much easier to get the curl than the slice over 5 because I am so slow at accelerating after rotations. In the end we sort of got them both but I wasn’t really happy with our performance of either of these options (and the number of reps it took to get them accomplished). So I experimented with doing a distance backside of 3, and picking up Tru on my right over 4. I asked Tru to slice #5 while I did a reverse spin which tightened the turn and gave me decent lines for the ending sequence.

Forgive me, I forgot to read the rest of your comments before I did the analysis. I agree with your assessment of where things are easier and harder for you. I see now that you recognized the trouble you were having to show a good line to the wrap/slice jump.

All that is to say, I want to soften my criticism in the below video 😉

No problem, Sarah. You are 100% right. When you distance handle, you do get complacent and tend to let the dog do the work. That’s what I like about the BAD exercise sets. They “force” me (in a kindly way!) to try things I likely never would or even think I could do (the rear option of the challenge that made its way into our video was the result of many failed reps convincing me I had to find a way to get down the line faster or the slice turn was not happening…and I really hate to fail at things…) And the moves I learn from doing these exercises do often make their way into my handling at trials with some distance flair, of course (LOL!). I did a nifty one I learned from one of your small spaces at the Invitationals.

Here are Zest and Blast’s attempts on this module. I happened to have weaves already in place but since we trialed the day before I only used six poles and jumped them both lower.

Here’s Jakes attempt. I set the weaves up coming into jump 1 but they may not have been far enough away. https://youtu.be/Ri7BENSNoqE?si=rvn4bOmu5EtzsQnJ

These were great exercises for us. Just barely made the front cross.

Tucker and I really enjoyed this week’s lessons. Option 1, blind crosses, felt the best. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well the slice version of the challenge worked for us.

LOVE the FC video! And thanks so much for suggesting that we (allowing us to) share it. I was just talking about the FC line in my class this week but I didn’t have much time and your video is so clear.
[Remember working me from a 6 or 7 step FC to 4 steps??]

    Thanks!
