Was Skeptic 18 weeks when you were jumping him, as in this sequence?

    • Sarah Baker says:

Some of the videos come from after I stopped the training notes. He was much older by the time we started classes at Argus (any videos in the dirt arena). He was over a year before we did full size jumps.

Hi Sarah, why are you clicking when you have released him to the target plate? Thank you.

    • Sarah Baker says:

I imagine I am clicking him for reaching the target… The behavior I want is drive to the target on cue. I click when he does the behavior then the reward is on the target for him. What time in the video are you referring to?

Hi Sarah – can you please explain the behavior after the bar dropped? Thank you!

5:46-5:49 looks like you trained a down after a dropped bar? Thanks!

        • Sarah Baker says:

Yes, I usually have Hops and Skeptic down after a dropped bar in practice. For dogs that do not care if they hit bars, it serves as a mini time out. Even more though, it prevents the dog from doing other unwanted behaviors while I set the bar (Hops – circling me, Skeptic – running off to smell things/take other equipment/jump on other people/etc). Dogs that are afraid when they knock a bar I reward after their rare knocked bars.
