how do you use shaping to increase speed? I’m able to get multiple wraps with ease but speed isn’t driven or lacks the intensity that matches her general on-course style

    • Sarah Baker says:

If you are getting variable speeds, then you would jackpot the faster reps and not reward the slower reps. You can also try running away after the wraps, adding speed into them and or trying to cause more excitement before cueing the multi wrap. Make sure the understanding is there too. If there is confusion that can cause slowness.

Hi Sarah I have an almost 13 week old black lab “Trudy” who is crazy smart. I have a general question about clicker training. I’ve never used and clicker and have been using “yes!” and “yes” with a treat to mark when she gets it right. I’ve also been trying to be really quiet, reward the behaviors I am looking for and resist the urge to add verbal ques/commands too early before the behavior is solid. Do you think I need to add clicker or is it ok not to use clicker as long as she is making progress?

    • Sarah Baker says:

The clicker is certainly not necessary if what you are doing is working! I use yes quite a bit. If you ever want to use one you can practice (when your dog is not around) by picking a behavior on tv to click. Like every time someone moves their right arm or whatever.
