A Note About BDA VIP |
|
Oh no, I specifically got yellow and blue weave poles for practice (and they cost a mint to get delivered!)
what don’t you like about yellow poles?
I always find it weird that when you have the two colors the entry and exit colors are different.
I think it is great that you got yellow and blue poles…train hard, trial easy! If you are training on yellow then you’ll be prepared when you see it.
I can’t say for certain why yellow is a problem, but I have records dating as far back as 2020 of dogs (VERY seasoned dogs) having problems with poles when one of the alternating colors is yellow. I train on it a lot but it still makes me nervous when I see it. I have been known to switch the weaves when in the walk thru the yellow pole is first 😉
interesting – I got yellow and blue because I train on grass and I thought yellow and blue were the two colors dogs see best on the green background. And I put the yellow first thinking it is more visible than the blue. I will have to re-think whether I have noticed any increased entry errors since I started using those.
My weave pole dislike is when there is marking tape wrapped around it. Some older equipment is still that way.
It’s interesting that you mentioned the color of the weave poles. Watching the live stream today, it was very noticeable that some rings had white poles and some had colored poles. As a viewer, I could see the white poles against the dirt much better than the colored poles. I wondered if it gave the dogs in the rings with the white poles an advantage. I know that the dogs in different rings aren’t competing against each other. But I wonder if there were more weave pole refusals or even off-course tunnels (the tunnel was certainly more visible than the weaves in Jack’s ring) in the rings with the colored poles. I would love to see the stats on that. Excellent run with Jack! It was just beautiful to watch. Good luck tomorrow!
Loved your analysis. It’s so helpful to hear how you deal with each individual dogs’ strengths and weaknesses. Congrats on the Q!
