With a small dog, can we tug while kneeling? Certainly it makes it more difficult to follow the dog while tugging, but it would save one’s back….

    • Esteban Fernandezlopez says:

Yes! It’s a great idea to sit or kneel when tugging with dogs, even larger ones, if this helps the behavior. It’s something to keep in mind at the end of your runs in trials. A quick search of runs from big events like Crufts and FCI World Champs will show you many handlers who immediately get on the ground to tug with their dogs.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was always wondering why my back hurt during tugging. Keeping my
back straight does help and increases the amount of time that I can tug.

Thanks for this. I use both arms as that’s better for me than one.
