Here is where we are at currently with the three-jump collection grid. It’s a work in progress, but even if not perfect, I feel it’s serving its purpose. Sometimes he hits bars with his tail. I don’t know what to do about that. I’m rewarding all efforts because this is very hard for him, he already knows not to drop bars, and I don’t feel it’s fair to withhold reinforcement if he touches a bar with his tail because I don’t think he can help it.

WOW, I’m impressed! These look very nice. And I agree with all that you said above. He does know not to hit bars so no need to really get on him. That will only lower his confidence and create more problems. Other than doing this with a forward send as well, I don’t see anything here to adjust.

Funny side note: When this post first came though email, it just tells me the lesson it is under and the author (that’s you). I thought “wow, that’s a bit much to be doing with Rowan!” Didn’t dawn on me until I opened the video that it was Ace! Stupid me 😉

Here is Bee attempting 2 jump grid. We did it once a few days ago. This is her second time. https://youtu.be/SXw47-kcKpQ

Bee is such a pretty jumper! But maybe I’m biased 😉 She looks effortless in these videos and I know they aren’t easy.

The first few reps look good. Maybe just reward a bit lower when she comes to your side after the front cross.

When you begin to add motion make sure you are decelerating early enough. Reps :12 and :18 you needed to slow down sooner. You don’t want to be cueing forward motion when she commits to the first jump. :23 was better and :30 was great!

The recalls look great! She handled these better but that is expected as there are more turning cues. Lure your hand from your back leg to your front leg just a TINY bit sooner on the collection recall.

Thanks! “I” thought it seemed hard for
her, but I watch her day in and out and I could tell a Difference….and also our first session she really didn’t “get” the point. But for sure for this second attempt, I was thrilled with her improvement and understanding.
