Update on sit jumps. The bar is set at 16″. Wondering if there is any value moving up to 20″. He measures 19″. His jump height in both USDAA and AKC is 20″ but I jump him at 16 and plan to stay with that.

This looks great!
It does help to go up to 20” to build more strength.
Nimbus’s sit jumps and a back jump on accident. https://youtu.be/bCI7p1GhF7U
This looks good. I want you to try it without the jump bump.
Nimbus sit jump, no jump bump, 8,10,10,8″ changed height for you to see. https://youtu.be/vWcIiVQD710
I really like how this is looking. Move the reinforcement mat closer to the jump by 6 inches.
Freck’s sit jumps. Some are at 10″. I then raised the bar to 12″.
https://youtu.be/ewL0CAg7Xr4
This is looking great! Keep working up to full height then we can work it into a fitness routine.
We have been working on our sit jumps 2x per week along with jump offerings. We moved to full height at 16″ and found Freck struggling a bit so moved back down to 12″. We had a vet clinical assessment of his hips. He has full movement and extension.

I think he is looking good at 16”. What exactly did you see that made you think he was struggling at 16”?
It seems that he is landing laterally rather than straight on. Maybe it is my treat placement? Should I be giving him more room on the landing side?
Give him more room, but it’s also okay if his butt swings sideways a bit on the landing to keep his tail from hitting the bar.
Hi Leslie – here is Matrix, and then Yowza, doing sit-jumps over 2 low bars. In your video, I notice that you reward quite high for the dog doing the cavalletti, which encouraged the sit after the jump, but for the single, higher jump you noted that the reward should be given low to encourage good jumping form. So for the 2 jumps I rewarded low, but then had to cue the dog to sit after each jump. should the reward be high for low jumps, and then lowered when the jump gets higher?

Neo’s sit jumps.
Is it better to set the target closer or farther from the joint?
I was watching other videos and you mentioned having “padding” on the landing side when doing repetitions at height. What do you use for this padding to soften the landing side?

Awesome job! I like where you have the reinforcement for 26”.
I use a FitStage for landing impact. You could use a thick cushion. The biggest thing is you don’t want it to slide.

Here is Enzo doing the Sit Jump.
I started him at 3 feet back from the 20 inch high jump but he didn’t understand to jump directly from a sit. I moved him to 2 feet and then gradually backed up. We finished at 3 feet away and 26 inches.

Awesome job!

Summer (senior dog) I need to place the treat on the floor I think, to prevent her looking up at me. Going away from me looks better. Would I always work up thru the heights with her, or just do a few on top height?
Here is Aria (1 year old)
I got confused watching the video and thought you were doing jump offering. For sit jump the dog should always jump toward you directly from a sit.The goal is to work up to full jump height. Then use that as a fitness exercise. You may have to lower height if you see fatigue or haven’t done the exercise in awhile.

Oh! Sorry about my confusion!
No worries!
Here is video of my girls first session with this…they caught on and started to get the idea of it but we’re definitely hesitant at the start. Looking forward to your feedback so I can see what to improve on. Thanks!
