  • Amy Jeske says:

When working this with the additional obstacles as on the handout, would you recommend adding a tunnel as the off-course trap for my tunnel loving dog?

AND, if I don’t have another person to hold my dog back, could the tunnel send be a good way to start?

    • Esteban Fernandezlopez says:

      Yes to both!

Adding a tunnel as an off-course trap is a great idea—especially for a tunnel-loving dog. It really helps reinforce the value of staying on the intended line and gives you a chance to reward the right choice.

And yes, using a tunnel send as a starting point works perfectly if you don’t have someone to hold your dog. It gives you time to get into position while still keeping the flow and energy of the sequence.

  • Sandra Cloutier says:

What is the distance between the jumps and are they all set at the dogs regulation jump height?

  • Sherrie Jans says:

Are you using any verbal que for the wrap ?

    • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

Yes. We use a variation of their name, for example “mir mir mir”, “ven ven ven”; other popular choices are “dig dig dig”.

      • jchbeall@gmail.com says:

So you don’t teach “wrap” & “tight” specifically or do you say “ven ven ven wrap”? Also OCD!

        • Sarah Fernandezlopez says:

With deceleration, the turn is always towards the handler. If you are choosing to use different verbal for left versus right, then I would just do the same training, but your word would be different on one side versus the other. So I would not say “ven ven ven right”, I would say “right right right”.
