Could you just do this with 2 x 2s or two poles on your full base? I don’t have a good “stop weaving” reward, and honestly, we’ve been struggling with him completing all 12 in competition lately so I don’t necessarily want to encourage anything but “continue weaving” for now?

    • Coach Leslie says:

Yes. I’m using 2x2s in the video. Do you say anything when training to let the dog know they did it correctly? I wouldn’t do this exercise with weave poles if you don’t have that communication system set up.

  • Sandy & Karma says:

I wish the video showed you in it more as to your positioning for for having the dog on the right or the left… it’s just a little hard for me to understand my proper positioning in order to have Karma on the correct lead… I know I am just being dense!

    • Coach Leslie says:

The lead leg is based on the turn the dog is making. Turning to the left would have the dog on the left lead. Keeping the starting position between 3 and 11 on the clock should help the dog understand to be on the left lead. You can also encourage it by starting with your dog on your right.

      • Sandy & Karma says:

I do understand “lead leg”……I am just struggling with my positioning to execute the complete wrap…..I will figure it out!!!!

        • Coach Leslie says:

It’s not necessarily going to be a complete 360 degree wrap. Your reinforcement should always be on the six o clock line. If you are sending from 6 o clock it will only be a 180. The closest to a 360 will come from an 11 o clock send. Always send from your right side and work around the clock between 3 and 11. The weaves are always going toward 12 o clock.
