Hi Coach,
Crouching is not something we have done in our conditioning up to this point. I built a little prop to help Bolo. He is 20″ at the shoulder and I think this prop is about 15 inches high and 5 feet long.

This looks amazing! https://link.getonform.com/view?id=TZVCJqqLbL61MBMtjwhi
So here Leslie you have our first attempt at the crouch/crawl. I started with chairs that I had already in my space. Although she is having to crouch a bit, I would like to have found something with a little lower set up (will work on it). I tried using the top rung of the chair, but that was too low……..so the seat was too high, the rung was too low, need something just in between.
Let me know what you think anyway……..started off with 2 chairs/4 rails, then added a chair and 2 rails………..we could have added a 4th chair but ran out of room and didn’t want her to have bad form thinking she was going to run into a wall!

I like the 3 chair set up.

Thanks so much for the feedback! Karma loves doing this exercise. I don’t think that 3 sets of 10 will be too much. Remind me though (I am drawing a blank), in this case is a set of 10 “up and back” 10 times……OR is doing “each direction” 10 times a set????
In other words, a total of 20 passes or a total of 10 passes PER SET?
I will play with figuring out how to make it slightly lower. The difference now between the flat part of the chair seat and the first rung down is 4″, so if I could figure out a way to get that to 2″, that might work……stay tuned!
I would say each direction (one way) is a rep.
Yes, I think 2” lower would be awesome!
Thanks for clarifying that! And we will work on adjusting the set up next week. We are trialing this weekend, yeah, Karma’s last “hoorah” before she get’s spayed next month.
I might need to pick your brain about some things we can do and when to do them after the surgery……….it’s hard for us to be idle!
It will be hard for Karma to be idle. She’ll probably say she’s fine two days after surgery. Take it easy for the 10-14 days after so that everything can heal properly.
I have to assume that means NO fitness exercises, only leash walks but not too far??? And when could I expect to return to ANY jumping, realistically???
When Stella was spayed 13 years ago I don’t remember our routine???
You could do some posture work. You don’t want to do anything that is going to pull on the abdominal muscles for 10-14 days. Then you can start adding fitness exercises in and start some low jumping. Because she is so fit now, you will get back to full form quickly. Probably within a month of surgery.
Hi Leslie! I have been slacking off a little. New puppy in the house!
Here’s Force’s crawl.

For small dogs, can we use the Klimbs to crawl under? I’ve actually played around with this some in the past few months & was setting my Klimbs up in a row for all of my pugs to crawl under. Some need more treats than others. 🙂 However, I was thinking the crawl should be on the floor so it’s good to know they can be higher off the ground.
Yes! I almost used a clip of a dog going under a Klimb but ended up not doing it in the end.
Perfect! Video come your way soon. 🙂
Looking forward to it!
Here’s a couple of runs under 2 Klimbs pushed together. I think he does a better job on the 2nd run of moving his back legs independently. Do you think the setup is too low for him? https://youtu.be/I3_kVbPDAQk
I think maybe an inch higher would be better.

Yeah, I love this exercise. And with Karma getting spayed in January, I think this will be helpful to build on this month!
But here is my question (probably way off base)……….but I see this as helpful in building overall strength…………why didn’t we start early on in this course with core work (like this particular exercise) and continue to build on it as we worked on perfecting form in other exercises????
Can’t wait to give this a try and I think the cavaletti’s will be great props!
You have been getting core work all along starting with the first month of targeting. If you go through the goals of each exercise, you will see that many, if not most have core engagement/ strengthening as a goal. This month is exercises that I didn’t feel really fit in any other category, so they get their own month labeled as core. There really are few exercises that only work one part of the body. The important thing to think about is what your focus for the exercises is at the time you’re doing it.
I guess I just blurted my question out without thinking through how I put it………….I truly didn’t mean to imply that we had no previous work on the core, I was referring more to the exercise just introduced that seems to focus strongly on the core, just thinking I would have liked to have that one in my toolbox early on so I could really build on it…………but I will now!!!!!
I think of this as a pretty advanced exercise, so I want the dogs to have a good foundation base before starting something like this.
