Is it OK to just lift up one paw and hold it there for a few seconds in the 3-legged stand? Or should it always be done with paw targets?
Yes, that is usually how I do it in a workout.

I recommend starting there and then going through the first year of the canine fitness program. It takes you through learning 3-6 exercises each month and it’s a great way to introduce your puppy to fitness exercises.
