I’m afraid I’ve missed something! We have been doing perch work in lesson 5 but moving on to lesson 6, the toy is placed and puppy is released to toy. Is there a lesson on toy placement without puppy grabbing it?
Not specific to the perch work, but they do incorporate control around a toy into several other lessons:

I heard heel at one point and were you also using left and right?
I think it’s just “heel” and “side” here.
Is it important to have a different command for either side? I have taught my dog “here” and I use my hand to indicate which side I want her on….
My personal opinion is, I put this is the category of “good enough”. This is not a skill I’m going to use in the ring at speed. It’s helpful for lineups and rear end awareness, and one word with a leg pat seems good enough for me.
